Hours of Service 6.0 Patch 1 Release Notes

New Features and Enhancements

HOS Updates in Support of Canadian ELD Requirements

The introduction of changes to the Hours of Service (HOS) application in preparation for compliance with the Canadian ELD mandate provides for functionality in compliance with the Canadian ELD Technical Standards.

In this release, Hours of Service will introduce additional Canadian ELD functionality that will culminate in the complete Canadian ELD application. Drivers will have complete Canadian ELD functionality before Omnitracs receives third-party certification.

The Canadian ELD mandate effectively replaces paper logs and requires federally regulated motor carriers to equip their vehicles with compliant, third-party-certified ELDs. On March 2, 2021, the Canadian Minister of Transport released a statement on newly formed enforcement procedures around the Canadian Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Mandate, which is slated to go into effect on June 12, 2021. The mandated deadline remains as is. However, the government will begin a phased enforcement rollout after the deadline that focuses on education and awareness at first. Therefore, there will be no enforcement penalties at the start of the mandate.

Once the device is certified, the certification body will provide Omnitracs with a certification number. Omnitracs will embed this number in the ELD software in the appropriate data field.

New Canadian ELD Driver Log Report

Host users can now generate a Canadian ELD Driver Log Report that lets them view compliant driver logs. The report is similar to the existing ELD Driver Log Report. As with other HOS reports, you can download or print the report for your records.

To run the report, select the Reports tab and choose Canadian ELD Driver Log from the list. In the parameters window, enter the driver ID for the log you want to view, select a date range, and then choose your preferred file format (HTML or PDF). Select View Report to generate the report in the specified format.

Web Services Calls Require Driver's License Number and License Jurisdiction

The following web service calls are being updated to require the driver’s license number and license state and country for the driver: AddEx and AddWithCarrierName. Failing to provide this information in the web service call will result in a failed call and an error being returned.

Please note that if you are using Entity Maintenance Bridge (EMB) on Qtracs after this update, failing to enter the driver’s license number and license state and country in Qtracs after this date will cause the entity maintenance bridge to fail to enter the information into Hours of Service due to this restriction.
