Working with Regions
Each organization or area for which you create routes is referred to as a region; you set up separate regions for each depot. A region is a division within a business unit. There can be one or more regions in a business unit and they are unique within a business unit. For example, you could have one region be Baltimore and another region be Washington, D.C. Each region can have its own default settings, such as the equipment type, that will be used throughout the region.
To add a new region or edit an existing region, follow the steps below.
Notes: If you are using an organizational hierarchy, which includes a multi-layered structure of regions that reflects your organization, Can Manage Region Sharing must be selected on your Roles Permissions page in order to move a sub-region below another region or to make a region into a sub-region.
If you use an organization hierarchy and are set to region hierarchy, you cannot switch to custom hierarchy.
If you are using an organizational hierarchy and Compliance, a top-level region will be automatically created when a customer is set up. The region will inherit all Compliance settings, including HOS (hours of service), from the new customer, while all other settings for the region will be filled with the default for Omnitracs Web. The region settings can be changed to be passed down to their sub-regions. This region cannot be moved or deleted.
- Click the green button and scroll to Region. The Region list opens.
- To add a region, click the [Add] button.
To change an existing region, click on the Edit icon next to the region.

To add a region that is similar to an existing region, click the Clone icon next to the region. The Clone Region window opens with all fields copied from the existing region, except ID.

To delete a region, click the Delete icon next to the region. See Deleting a region for more information.

The Add/Edit/Clone/Delete Region window opens.
To copy information to paste into a document, highlight the information you want to copy and either right-click and select Copy, or press Ctrl+C. The highlighted information can then be pasted into a separate document displayed as a vertical list.
Notes: If you have multiple levels of regions and wish to view your organizational hierarchy in a chart view, click the [Chart View] button. See Viewing Regions in an Organizational Hierarchy Chart for more information.
Chart View is only visible if you are using an organizational hierarchy.
- In the ID field, enter an identifier for the region. Each region must have a unique ID. The ID cannot contain any spaces.
- In the Description field, enter a description to help further identify the region. A Description is not required.
- The Parent Region field shows the region that is immediately above your region in your organizational structure.
If a region's ID or description shows in the Parent Region field, that is the region selected as the region immediately above your region.
If the Parent Region field is blank, no region has been selected to be immediately above your region. To select a region to be above your region, see Moving a Region.
-
To set other options for the region, click on the appropriate option along the left side of the window. When you are finished setting up the region, click the [Save] button.
To see changes that were previously made to the region, click the Audit Trail icon. An audit log window opens, showing all changes made to the region, along with who made the change and when it was made. To filter the audit list to only specific items you want to see, start typing the criteria in the Search window. For instance, if you wanted to see all the changes made by JSmith, enter JSmith in the Search field.

If you want to see the audit log for a region that has been deleted, click the [Show Deleted] button. The region list expands to include deleted regions, simply click the Audit Trail icon for the deleted region.
