Editing Your Driver Log
Overview
As part of the ELD Mandate, drivers can manually edit and add events in their own HOS Log using Omnitracs XRS Mobile. This applies primarily to drivers in ELD vehicles, although AOBRD Drivers can also edit their logs if their carrier has enabled the feature in their Region settings.
- To edit an existing event in the HOS Log, see Editing an Event in the HOS Log section below.
- To add a new event to the HOS Log, see Adding an HOS Event to the HOS Log section below.
Drivers may or may not be required to be associated to a vehicle in order to edit their logs, depending on the company's default host mode and whether or not the company settings allow AOBRD log edits:
- AOBRD Mode: If AOBRD edits are allowed in the host (that is, if Allow AOBRD Log Editing is selected in the HOS Settings—Rules and Options tab of the Region Settings window), drivers can edit their logs at any time without being associated to a vehicle.
- Mixed Mode: If AOBRD edits are allowed in the host, drivers can edit their logs at any time without being associated to a vehicle. If AOBRD edits are not allowed, drivers can only edit their logs when they are associated to an ELD vehicle.
- ELD Mode: Drivers can edit their logs at any time without being associated to a vehicle.Drivers using Omnitracs One mobile (Drive) can add and edit On-Duty, Sleeper Berth, and Off-Duty time directly from their Omnitracs One Mobile Devices. They are also required to review, accept, or reject edits suggested by the motor carrier upon logging into Omnitracs Drive.
You cannot edit:
- Other drivers’ logs
- Intermediate logs
- Driver ELD login/logout activity
- Engine power-up or shut-down activities
- ELD malfunction or data diagnostic events
- Inactive events
In addition, with limited exception for correcting errors with a co-driver, you are not able to reduce, reassign, reclassify, or delete any time recorded as a Drive duty status.
Editing Your Driver Log
To edit your log:
1. Select the menu from the ELD Activities menu of Omnitracs Drive and select the Edit Log option.

2. The Log Editor screen appears.
Editable events are indicated by a pencil icon.
Note: If an error is made when originally entering Shipping Information at log in, you can use the Log Editor to correct the error.

3. To add an event, select the +Event button in the upper right corner of the screen. The Select Event to Add screen appears.

a. Select Duty Status, Add Shipping Information, or Remark. The screen that appears will depend on which event you selected.
b. Complete all required fields. When you have finished, select Continue to return to the Log Editor screen. The event you added is shown in green in the graph and in the events list.
c. Select Save to save the added event. The Violation Changes screen appears to alert you to any potential HOS violations that have occurred as a result of the change you made.
d. Select Continue to return to the Log Editor screen. A new event has been added to the graph and the events list.
Note: If you add a Remark or Shipping Information, you are prompted to add a trailer after you select Continue. If you are adding a remark, you can select Skip to bypass this step; if you are adding shipping information, you must add and save trailer information.
4. To edit an event, select the pencil icon next to the event you need to edit. The Edit Duty Status screen opens for that event.
Edit the fields as needed. When you are finished, select Continue and you will return to the Log Editor screen.
The edits you made appear in green in the log.
a. Select Save to save your edits to the log.
After you add or edit events, you will need to re-certify your logs. Select the Certify tab, review the logs, and select Certify.
Note: Drive events cannot be shortened, deleted, or replaced. Also, Personal Conveyance and Yard Move events cannot be deleted.
2. Update all of the fields on the Edit Duty Status screen. They can be edited in any order. Editable fields include:
- Start time: The time the event occurred, or started to occur. The Start time for Drive events cannot be moved forward because Drive events cannot be shortened, per the ELD Mandate.
- Duty Status: Enter your Duty Status in this field. Duty Statuses correspond to your Driver Log—On Duty, Off Duty, Sleeper Berth, or Drive.
- Location: Manual entry of your location.
- Add Comment: A required field. Enter a pertinent comment up to 60 characters.
Updating the Start Time
In the example below, the Drive segment (represented by the blue box) is being edited. The prompt "Enter time between YY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS and YY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS" indicates the allowable time values within which you can make your edits. Note that the length of the Drive segment cannot be shortened.
1. Select the Start time field. A date picker appears.
2. Confirm that the date is correct (you won't be able to choose another date from here) and select OK.
The time picker appears.
3. Adjust your Start time as necessary and select OK.
The Edit Duty Status screen appears.
Note: If you select Cancel at any point while filling out the Start time field, you return to the Edit Duty Status screen.
If you select Cancel on the Edit Duty Status screen, you return to the Log Editor screen and no edits will be made.
Updating the Duty Status
This field allows you to change the actual Duty Status. Your choices are:
· Drive: You can increase the amount of Drive time.
· On Duty: Edit the status to declare yourself On Duty for that time period.
· Off Duty: Edit the status to declare yourself Off Duty for that time period.
· Sleeper Berth: Edit the status to declare Sleeper Berth for that time period.
If you are editing an event for time or comment, you won't need to change the value in this field. You will not be able to replace a Drive status.
Updating the Location
The ELD mandate requires that all ELD events (any Duty Status changes or edits are included) include a location. If your relay has not already supplied a value for this field, or that value is wrong, you can manually enter a location.
Adding a Comment
Per the ELD Mandate, comments are required for all Duty Status edits. Comments must be between 4–60 characters.
Finishing Up
1. Once all of the fields in the Edit Duty Status screen are completed, select Continue.
The Log Editor screen appears. The edits you have made will appear in green on the Log Editor screen.
Note: If you select Cancel (instead of Continue) at this point, you return to the Log Editor screen; no edits will be saved. You can still choose events to edit.
2. Select Save. The Violation Changes screen appears, alerting you to any potential HOS violations that occurred as a result of your edit.

If you select Cancel before committing your edits, the Cancel Edits screen will appear to confirm. If you select Yes to cancel your edits, no changes will be made and you will return to the standard HOS Log screen. If you select No, you will return to the Log Editor screen and the pending edits will still appear in green.

3. Select Continue on the Violations Changes screen to commit your edits. The HOS Log screen appears. Your changes will be committed and the edits will now appear in blue on the Log Graph. In the Events list, they will now be indistinguishable from previous entries.
Note: If you select Cancel from the Violation Changes screen, you will return to the Log Editor screen and your proposed changes will still appear in green, both in the Events List and the Log Graph.
