Landmark Types & Attributes

For each landmark defined on the Services Portal, an appropriate landmark type ID must be selected.  Within the Services Portal, landmark types help facilitate landmark identification, as well as provide a mechanism for grouping "like" landmarks (i.e. all "customer" type landmarks).  It should also be noted that key differences exist between landmark types in the following areas:

Default Radius
The default radius may be used during landmark creation.  If, during the creation of a landmark, neither the explicit vertices of the landmark's polygonal boundary, nor the actual landmark radius are specified, the landmark type's default radius would be used when defining the landmark boundary.

Arrival Speed Checking
Arrival speed checking conditions the arrival of an asset (vehicle or trailers), at a landmark, upon the asset's reported speed being 15 mph or less.  Some landmark types utilize arrival speed checking while others do not.  Note that arrival speed checking is only applicable for mobile units capable of reporting speed within generated position reports.

Type-Specific Attributes
The amount and type of information that may be specified for an individual landmark varies based on the assigned landmark type.  Each landmark type has a certain number of predefined, type-specific, landmark attributes which are available for use with landmarks of that type.
